Ol Pejeta is located in Laikipia County, Kenya, between Nanyuki town and the foothills of Mount Kenya. It sits roughly 14 km from Nanyuki and about 200 km north of Nairobi, making it one of the most accessible major conservancies in East Africa. Travellers reach it via the A2 highway or by flying into Nanyuki Airport, which is served by daily flights from Wilson Airport in Nairobi.
The conservancy spans over 90,000 acres and is bordered by the Ewaso Ng’iro and Ewaso Narok rivers. Its location within the Laikipia ecosystem places it in a vital wildlife corridor linking Mount Kenya, Samburu, and the northern rangelands. This position supports abundant wildlife, including the largest black rhino population in East Africa and the world’s last two northern white rhinos, housed in a secure sanctuary within Ol Pejeta.
Thanks to its altitude and diverse habitats — grasslands, acacia woodlands, riverine forests — Ol Pejeta offers excellent year-round wildlife viewing. Lions, elephants, cheetahs, Grevy’s zebras, African wild dogs, and large buffalo herds thrive here. Its location also makes it cooler than southern parks, offering comfortable game drives even during hotter months.
Visitors often pair Ol Pejeta with nearby destinations like Mount Kenya National Park and the Samburu ecosystem, creating a well-rounded northern circuit safari.
