Nairobi National Park covers approximately 117 square kilometres (45 square miles). Despite its compact size, it boasts a rich variety of habitats — open grass plains, acacia woodland, and riverine forest — all within 20 minutes of Nairobi’s city centre.
This makes it one of the smallest yet most accessible national parks in Africa.
The park’s open southern boundary connects to the Kitengela migration corridor, allowing movement of wildebeest, zebra, and other grazers between the park and adjacent plains.
Over 100 mammal species and 400 bird species live within this small space, including lions, black rhinos, and giraffes.
Size alone doesn’t define its appeal — it’s the rare coexistence of city and wilderness that makes Nairobi National Park unique.
