What Time Does the National Park Close?

Most Kenyan national parks close at 6:00 PM, including Nairobi National Park, Amboseli, Tsavo East, Tsavo West, and Lake Nakuru. The Kenya Wildlife Service enforces this uniform schedule to protect both visitors and wildlife, as animals become more active after dusk. The latest recommended entry time is 5:30 PM, giving visitors enough time to exit before gates shut.

Closing times rarely change, but rangers may adjust them slightly during heavy rains or when visibility drops. Early closure prevents vehicles from disturbing nocturnal species and ensures that emergency teams can respond to incidents before nightfall. Visitors planning afternoon game drives should arrive no later than 3:00 PM to enjoy at least two hours in the park.

Night game drives are allowed only in select conservancies such as Ol Pejeta and private reserves within Maasai Mara, and require special permits.
